Whitney preparing for Olympic camp

Next month the U.S. and Canada will hold orientation camps for the 2010 Olympics, a reminder that the Winter Games are just around the corner.

Ducks defenseman Ryan Whitney will be among those at the U.S. camp on Aug.17-19 in Woodbridge, Ill., along with former Pittsburgh Penguins teammate Brooks Orpik.

The Boston Globe did a nice piece on the their similar career paths. Both played at Thayer Academy (Mass.) and at opposing colleges – Orpik at Boston College and Whitney at Boston University – before landing at Pittsburgh.

The two will be among 12 defensemen trying to make the team.

“If I work hard I will have a good chance,” Whitney told the Globe. “But it will by no means be easy with the talent on defense.”
