Niedermayer shows his green side

Scott Niedermayer is known for his understated leadership on and off the ice, but few fans know him outside a hockey rink. scotty2 Niedermayer shows his green side

Those that do know that the Ducks captain has taken a stance in animal rights and the environment. The latter was evident Tuesday when Niedermayer took ownership in a Honda FCX Clarity Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle in a ceremony at Honda Center.

Niedermayer (right, between Ducks senior vice president Bob Wagner and John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda) will lease the zero emissions hydrogen-powered car to use for his commute from south Orange County. He will also do it to promote a greener lifestyle.

“It’s something that’s important to me – being responsible as far as how we treat the environment,” Niedermayer said. “It provides everything we need to survive here. We should show a little responsibility and turn back to the planet. I’ve always considered that. I grew up in a beautiful part of the world (Cranbrook, British Columbia) where you’re able to drink from the streams … It’s just a passion, something that I feel is important.”
