About the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
The Anaheim Angels have been through many ups and downs since the team was founded in the 1960s and they have come from humble beginnings to be one of the hottest baseball teams in the Western Division, taking home the championship for three years between 2007 and 2009 to really make their mark.
The Angels began life back in 1961 when a major league team was formed to play on the ground where a minor league side had held residence before, taking their name in the process. Originally they played at Wrigley Field, although this was demolished in the 1960s shortly after their formation and in 1965 they moved into Anaheim Stadium. Name changes as a result of ownership changing hands have cause the original Los Angeles Angels name tag to be ditched in favor of California Angels, only to be changed to the Anaheim Angels and finally the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The angelical nature of the name has never faltered and the nickname of The Halos has allowed fans to keep some control over what they call their team.
Significantly the Angels have only really come into their own since the turn of the new millennium. They were able to make the playoffs several times throughout the years since their formation and in 1986 they even came within spitting distance of the World Series, although they were sadly denied their chance of glory due to berth rules. Winning their first Western Division title in 1979 they have toppled their nearby rivals to take home this honor a further seven times to date. Their most prolific winning streak began in 2002 when they became wildcard entrants in the World Series and went on to triumph and win it for their eager fans. This win was attributed to the fact that the Disney corporation had taken over in 1997 and entrusted the management of the team to Mike Scioscia but even after Disney sold up in 2004 the winning streak continued, with the Angels again surpassing the other teams in the Western Division to win four more titles.
The Angels have continued to make it to the playoffs in recent years but they have yet to return to the heady days of 2002 when the World Series became theirs. Despite the name changes and logo alterations which have come as a result of the various owners the Angels have held strong and many fans pick up a leather sectional sofa which is branded with their favorite team so that whenever they watch a game they can show their colors.
