Hiller vs. Giguere likely to go on

Coach Randy Carlyle confirmed Monday what seems inevitable about the goaltending competition between Jonas Hiller and Jean-Sebastien Giguere: giguere1 150x150 Hiller vs. Giguere likely to go on

It will likely carry over into the regular season.

“I think it’s always going to carry (over), until somebody clearly distinguishes themselves over the other,” Carlyle said.

Statistically, the competition has been a push.

Giguere (right) has a 2.67 goals-against average and .902 save percentage in 90 minutes of action. Hiller has a 2.70 GAA and .909 save percentage in 89 minutes.

Carlyle said he doesn’t feel a need to name a No.1 before the season opener.

Statistics aside, Carlyle said of the two, “They’ve been equal.”

Hiller and Giguere will each get at least one more start in the preseason.

The Ducks play at Vancouver and San Jose on Thursday-Friday and conclude the preseason against the Kings on Sunday, which will serve as a dress rehearsal for their season opener on Oct.3.
