The pool of Ducks’ defenseman shrunk further Friday when they re-assigned Mark Mitera to San Antonio of the American Hockey League.
That leaves nine defensemen remaining in Ducks’ training camp: Nick Boynton, Luca Sbisa, Steve Eminger, Ryan Whitney, Sheldon Brookbank, Scott Niedermayer, James Wisniewski, Jassen Cullimore and Brendan Mikkelson.
Mitera played in one preseason game and was a minus-2.
The former University of Michigan captain made a remarkable comeback from reconstructive knee surgery that wiped out all but eight games of his senior season.
Mitera made it back to finish his college career with the Wolverines and made his professional debut with Iowa of the AHL last season.
