The Ducks will be big Boston Bruins fans Friday when the Bruins play Philadelphia in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
The Ducks got an additional pick in the draft through the Chris Pronger (right) trade.
If Boston beats Philadelphia, the Ducks will get the No.15 pick in next month’s amateur draft. If the Flyers win, that pick will fall to 27-30.
The Ducks received the pick as part of the Chris Pronger trade at last year’s draft.
The Ducks already have the No.12 pick. As the Register’s Eric Stephens has pointed out, having two picks in the first round could conceivably give the Ducks a bargaining piece in a trade situation.

If only “Gary” would read some of these posts! ….
The good thing about our Ducks is organizational depth. We don’t need to look any further than Dave McNab to find a guy qualified to step up as GM. Having learned from the likes of Pierre Gauthier, Bryan Murray and Brian Burke and with 30 years in professional hockey, McNab seems all dressed up with nowhere to go, for the moment.
Our scouting department is excellent as evidenced by all the good to great kids in the system. Much of that too is credited to Dave McNab. It’s probably time to fish or cut bait with Festerling and Mikkelson. Each will get a 2nd contract somewhere. If there is a weakness it’s probably lack of depth in goal. I’ve always liked Cousineau though. Just something about a guy who finds a way to keep hanging around. He’s got survivor written all over him.
The simple fact right now is that our Ducks are very close to following one year wonder Tampa Bay Lightening to the status of perennial playoff also ran. In 3 years we’ve gone from 1st round exit, a timely 26 game hot streak and missing the playoffs entirely. I’m guessin’ there’s a chart with an unmistakable trend line there.
In that time our Ducks have established that we will do it Carlyle’s way or guys will get moved out. Well we’ve done that and still our Ducks get worse instead of better.
How many players? How many excuses does a guy get?
If you doubt that our Ducks are a mismanaged zoo look no further than Teemu Selanne’s public statement, “Sign Paul Kariya and I’ll return for another year.” It was only necessary for Teemu to have Eric Stephens carry that water for him is because there no talks going on. Not even no talks, not even a chat or friggin’ text message.
What the heck does Bob Murray do all day? Just when does a very affordable 40 goal scorer if he’s healthy become a priority?
Our Ducks are weak in 3 areas. The GM, the head coach and along the blue line. Given how we’ve seen Bob Murray solve problems our Ducks will get weak up top to pick up the D.
Meanwhile we fans are stuck with Henry “Gary Cooper” Samueli, strong silent type of an owner. On ice results decline, revenue is down. Inaction indicates Henry Samueli just doesn’t get it.
Hope we get a home game against Tampa next season. That will be worth paying to see. I’ll take the other 40 games on tv.
The cost for Pronger to keep until he retired would have been much less than the crazy number they gave him in Philly as he WANTED to stay here, and was teamed with Cap, and together they played a zillion minutes, and still looked rested, because they never had unnecessary skating shifts, they glided to every puck, and knew where each other were going to be…top five defensive duo, maybe ever if they stayed together…..but that was then….
Beauchemin was not paid, and we gave huge money to Whitney, and Wiz for much less production, heck Boynton was a better deal in hindsight, at least his heart was there…Anyway we lost some spots on our next first round pick…seems backwards since the better Pronger is, the higher our pick should be no?
I look at it this way:
1. There were other possible scenarios how to manage our money.
2. Murray said twice that some players would be shipped out before RC goes.
3. Two GMs said that Pronger was a bad influence in the locker room (guess who was one of them – but I am also guessing on that one).
4. I know about disagreements between Ch.P. and RC.
Yes, samuelp, Jiggy’s contract was killing us, but Pronger’s was worth of every penny.
Yes, samuelp, Wiz is improving, but still it’s not enough. Vis is quick, great with his stick, but too small to push big opposing forwards out of position.
And last: yes, I should deal with reality, accept it, and not to moan about the past, or about that what I cannot change. .
Flyers 4 Bruins 3. Pronger played 31:48 minutes spread over 38 shifts.
Man, all season long cz & I have differed about the real reasons we traded Pronger. When you put it that like that cz, we had cap space for Whitney and Wisniewski but not for Chris Pronger. It’s like getting butt ended above the pants.
Sometimes that’s what it takes. I’ve just not wanted to believe that Randy Carlyle is so full of himself that (1) He can’t take any dissension in the ranks; (2) he doesn’t respect what he doesn’t know. he doesn’t even recognize when he might, maybe be WRONG!!! (3) What was it last year 30-35 games in before he started making changes to his precious system.
That’s a pretty strong personal condemnation. It’s rough when a guy’s mistakes arise from character or lack thereof. I’ve always thought Carlyle’s celebrated feistiness and nose in the air demeanor masked a very small man.
How petty can you get to want to trade Chris Pronger because you don’t like him. How stupid can you get to actually do it.
Yeah cz. You’re not just right. You’re right for the right reasons. Sometimes it’s not what you know but what you are that counts.
Our Ducks deserve and are worth far more than what Bob Murray and Randy Carlye bring to the table.
The reality was that Murray had to get rid of Pronger, like Jiggy, because of his hefty contract, not because he didn’t like him. Whitney was an Olympian, but played inconsistently for the Ducks because he wasn’t used to playing at the top of the ice. We got Vishnovsky for him and Sbiza also for Pronger. If Scotty returns and Wiz is resigned, that should be a good starting 4 on defense.. The draft will help eventually, but what we need now is a new coach.
Meanwhile, I am still loving the Cup play-offs, the best there is in any sport.
Pronger was great for us and I’m glad for him that he has had success with Philly – wish it hadn’t come at our expense.
Whitney & Wisniewski – I like Jame’s heart, but he is nothing compared to Chris. Whitney – what can you say – I didn’t even see any heart with him.
Double come back for the Flyers, from 3-0 down in the series, and in the game 7. Amazing.
In a way I am happy for Chris Pronger. Unfortunately Mr. Murray and Mr. Carlyle did not like him. They wanted Whitney and Wisniewski.
But man, imagine if the Rangers had won that shootout against Philly. We’d be looking at 10 & 12 overall picks.
Serious. Wake up Bruins! We want that 15th pick!
