One lucky surf fan tonight will be walking away with a Bob Hurley-shaped surfboard at Huntington Beach surfer Brett Simpson’s going away party tonight at Huntington Surf and Sport.
The party is a farewell to the local ripper, who is starting his rookie year on the World Championship Tour. The waiting period for the first event – the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast - starts Feb. 27.
Simpson is joined by three other Orange County surfers – Pat and Tanner Gudauskas and Nate Yeomans - who are also entering thier rookie year on the tour.
All four stood out on the World Qualifying Series last year, enabling them to move from minor to major leagues and the chance to go head-to-head against the top 45 surfers in the world.
The surfboard will be raffled off to party-goers who purchase a pair of Phantom boardshorts, a product Simpo is often seen sporting in ads. The party kicks off at 5 p.m. tonight and goes to about 7 p.m.
Simpson is a hometown favorite who always brings strong support from local fans. He won last year’s OC Surfer of the Year contest, an online vote by Register readers who picked him among other pros as their favorite. Huntington Surf and Sport is located at the corner of Main and PCH.
