The Oak Canyon Nature Center in Anaheim Hills got a spring cleaning thanks to volunteers who took advantage of the Give a Day, Get a Disney Day giveaway.
Mickey Mouse played host as more than 50 volunteers grabbed shovels, rakes, trowels, paint brushes and trash bags to clean the trails of litter, freshen up the nature trails, paint and repair benches and more Thursday.
Christine Jones, who lives near the center, used to bring her Girl Scout troop here for tours. She raked up leaves in a display garden.
“It was a great way to give something back,” Jones said. “And I get a Disneyland ticket too.”
Chris Fisher of Norco heard about the effort from a relative in Denver and brought her four home-schooled children along to help out.
“I thought it would be good for them to learn about how volunteering is important. The Disney tickets are a nice bonus,” Fisher said.
Mickey Mouse was making a stop at the center as part of the Walt Disney Co.’’s yearly program to promote volunteerism. Disney is working with the HandsOn Network to set up projects across the country.
This was the 17th stop for the tour as it continues to go across the country.
