The Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant rode down Main Street, U.S.A. atop a float with Mickey Mouse at 10 a.m. today before hundreds of screaming fans.
The Disneyland parade comes the day after the massive Lakers championship victory parade in Los Angeles that clogged streets for miles.
“This was different, man, because I’m up there with Mickey Mouse, you know what I mean?” he said. ”And I’m in the happiest place on earth surrounded by Lakers fans — it doesn’t get any better than that.”Click here to view the embedded video.
Characters ranging from “Pinocchio’s” Geppetto to “Aladdin’s” Princess Jasmine heralded the float on which Kobe stood with Mickey and other classic Disney characters. The crowd decked in purple and gold chanted “Kobe, Kobe,” and “MVP, MVP.”
“We got up at 6 and left at 6:30, and we got here a little after 7,” said Josh Garcia, 21 of Huntington Park. ”We were some of the first to get here.”
Garcia and eight of his friends and family members piled into three cars to reserve their spot for the victory parade at Disneyland.
Maderia Bruton, 75, and her daughter Cathie Merz, 54, both from Long Beach also parked themselves on a bench at the end of Main Street early, too.
“We had four generations of Laker fans for the game the other night,” Bruton said.
Bryant, in an interview after the parade, said that he brings his family to Disneyland all the time. His favorite ride?
“There’s different ones,” he said. “When I’m with my oldest daughter, it’s Splash Mountain, when I’m with my youngest daughter, it’s Peter Pan, and when I’m with my wife, it’s space mountain.”
