Hidden Treasures at Disneyland Resort, Part II

For part I of this article, click here.

1. Main Street Cinema

It’s noon on a sweltering summer day and you’re about to go into heat exhaustion at Main Street U.S.A. Where should you go? You spy a marquee sign proclaiming it to be the ‘Main Street Cinema’.cinema 150x150 Hidden Treasures at Disneyland Resort, Part II What’s that?

You don’t really want to watch a movie on your Disneyland vacation, but you simply can’t stand the heat any longer. So you go past the chipped mannequin stationed at the entrance and push back the curtain.

You come face-to-face with a bank of movie screens, each showing an old, yet timeless, Disney cartoon. Among these include ‘Steamboat Willie’, the first cartoon to include sound, ‘The Moose Hunt’, the first short which included Pluto the dog, and ‘Plane Crazy’, which chronicles the mayhem of Mickey’s (disastrous) attempts to fly.

You could easily spend an hour here viewing each of the short films; it’s much more than simply a place to get out of the heat.

2. Mint Juleps

Last article, I talked about Dole Whips. In this article, I’ll focus on a food item much less known about-but just as good. They’re called Mint Juleps, and no, unlike other mint juleps, this one doesn’t include alcohol. Remember, Disneyland is non-alcoholic.The Mint Julep Bar is located right across from the New Orleans Square train station. It’s a small, out-of-the-way window located at the end of Royal Street and rarely has a line. mint 150x150 Hidden Treasures at Disneyland Resort, Part II

So feel free to saunter up and order a mint julep. Watch them take a plastic cup and load it to the brim with the tangy green liquid. Make sure they don’t forget the cherry on top, or the mint leaves.

Go ahead, take a sip. How does it taste?

3. Grizzly River Run Trail

Nestled around and through Grizzly Peak is the Grizzly River Run raft-ride attraction, one of the more popular attractions at Disney’s California Adventure. However, it’s not the only thing winding through the faux mountain. A small path also makes its way through the Grizzly Peak Recreation Area. This out-of-the-way pathway offers some excellent vistas of Grizzly River Run’s final drop and is a pleasant respite where you can have some peace and quiet.url1 300x225 Hidden Treasures at Disneyland Resort, Part II

But watch out for those grizzly bears — not for nothin’ is it called Grizzly River Run.
