Dec. 5, 1985: The City of Anaheim salutes Walt Disney’s birthday with the spectacular SkyFest, a world-record release of more than one-million colorful balloons over the skies of Disneyland Park.

Dec. 5, 2001: The 100th anniversary of Walt Disney’s birth is celebrated with Disney Legends Richard M. Sherman and John Hench as special guests.

Dec. 8, 2008: Rumor spreads that Disney laid off four actors playing fictional pirate Jack Sparrow in the park because women tended to flash the character, which is denied by Disney.

Dec. 9, 1956: The yellow Horseless Carriage begins operation.

Dec. 1976: Seven new scenes are added to the Jungle Cruise including 31 new Audio-Animatronics animals.

Dec. 10, 1992: Disneyland Park presents veteran actor Dean Jones with the “pink slip” for Herbie (”The Love Bug”), for his outstanding Disney film career. Dean announced that the two would help raise money for Pediatric AIDS.
