On this week in theme park history:
July 4, 1956: Indian War Canoes premiere on the Rivers of America in Frontierland.
July 4, 1975: Conceived as a salute and celebration honoring the American Bicentennial, America on Parade, begins its daily performances on July 4, 1975 at both Disneyland Park and Walt Disney World. The celebration continues until September 1976. In all, the red, white and blue procession completes more than 1,200 performances before a total audience of 25 million guests, the largest audience ever to view a live performance.
July 4, 1979: The park welcomes its first-ever birth in Disneyland when Teresa Salcedo is born near Main Street, U.S.A., to Rosa and Elias Salcedo of Los Angeles. Mickey Mouse later presents Teresa with “Disneyland Birth Certificate No. 1″ recognizing the unprecedented event.
July 4, 1984: CircleVision 360 Theater opens in Tomorrrowland witha double feature of world travel adventures where the audience is surrounded by images of scenic wonders. American Journeys takes a memorable tour to the USA’s most famous landmarks while Wonders of China displays scenes from the Gobi Desert and the Great Wall to the Imperial Palace in Bejing, then far south to the traffic jams of Shanghai and the strange mountain peaks of Guelin along the Li River. The theater closed in 1999.
July 4, 2001: Disney’s Electrical Parade is introduced at Disney’s California Adventure.
July 7, 2008: The Sky Cabin at Knott’s Berry farm reopens after getting stuck twice. The Sky Cabin, which travels up a 180-foot-tower first got stuck on June 22, leaving 24 people trapped for an hour.
